I remember this one clearly: The client, Tech Data, requested a rush direct mailer. I got the text and the images at about 5:30 pm and they needed a proof the next morning. The concept they provided was a group of people waiting around a printer looking bored, but they didn’t have a photo of that and there were no stock photos that specific. What to do? I told the project manager that I couldn’t execute that concept and she told me to do what I thought was best. I happened to have a CD of characters and one of the characters was Rip Van Winkle! Viola. I wrote the copy and it was a go! All parties loved it!
